ABA Welcomes Alex Catanese to Congressional Relations Team

WASHINGTON —

As the American Bankers Association continues its strong advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill, the association today announced it is welcoming Alex Catanese as the newest member of its bipartisan congressional relations team.

“We are thrilled to have Alex bring his valuable expertise and fresh perspective to ABA’s advocacy efforts as we prepare for significant policy engagement in 2025 and beyond,” said ABA Executive Vice President of Congressional Relations and Legislative Affairs Kirsten Sutton. “At a critical moment for our industry and our economy, we are fortunate to have such a talented congressional relations team representing banks of all sizes on Capitol Hill.”

Catanese comes to ABA from America’s Credit Unions, where he advocated for financial inclusion policies before members of the Senate Banking and House Financial Services Committees as a member of the association’s lobbying team. Before his time at ACU, Catanese led the Credit Union National Association’s political outreach programs for Democratic candidates, connecting the association’s advocates with their elected officials and candidates to form productive working relationships.

Prior to his roles working for the credit union industry, Catanese managed the political programs at the Independent Community Bankers of America and advocated on behalf of a variety of clients at The Normandy Group, a bipartisan government relations firm. He began his career in public policy interning for his home state Senator, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), in Cincinnati and Washington.

Catanese holds a B.A. in Political Science and Government from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and is a native of Mentor, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland.
