Director of FinCEN James H. Freis to be Keynote Speaker

WASHINGTON – The American Bankers Association and the American Bar Association Criminal Justice Section today announced that their 20th annual Money Laundering Enforcement Conference is set for Oct. 19-21 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington.

Nearly 1,000 bankers and attorneys will convene to hear a key note address given by Director of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network James H. Freis.  Freis will be joined by a broad range of leading banking and regulatory authorities providing attendees with guidance on managing the growing risks and intensified scrutiny that banks face in their anti-money laundering efforts.

Celebrating its 20th year as the industry’s longest running anti-money laundering program, the conference has been designed to update senior-level BSA/AML compliance officers – as well as in-house and outside bank counsel – on all aspects of money laundering compliance, deterrence and detection.

General sessions and multiple breakout sessions will provide incisive, up-to-date solutions to the challenges banks face every day. This year’s topics include:

  • Risk Assessment for Large and Community Banks;
  • Regulatory Relations and Exam Management;
  • Breakdown in Internal Controls;
  • Trade Finance;
  • Mortgage Lending and AML;
  • Electronic Banking and AML;
  • BSA/AML Issues for the Insurance Industry;
  • SAR Disclosure Issues;
  • MSB Developments; and
  • Criminal AML Enforcement and its Effect on BSA Regulatory Standards.

Senior officials from federal banking agencies  will provide attendees with an in-depth review of enforcement actions and first-hand information on examination expectations.  For more information or to register, please call ABA Customer Service at 1-800-BANKERS or visit www.aba.com.
