Frequently Asked Questions About the Prepaid Currency Card
1. What is the Prepaid Currency Card?
The Prepaid Currency Card is an instant-issue, point-of-sale debit card with ATM capabilities. Currency Cards are issued in three currencies: US Dollars, British Pounds and Euros. The card is PIN and signature protected and can be used to withdraw cash at ATMs, as well as make purchases at millions of merchants worldwide who accept Visa® and/or MasterCard®. 2. How does this card differ from the customer's (bank) debit card?
The card is prepaid upfront and is not affiliated with the customer's bank account. With the new Cash Passport (MasterCard branded) one can lock in their exchange rate upfront by loading on the Euro or Pound card. 3. Which currency card should I take?
The prepaid Euro card is the obvious choice for European countries, and likewise the British Pounds option will be best for the UK. In other countries or areas the US Dollar option may be best. No matter which currency you choose, you can still use the Currency Card worldwide to withdraw local currency. The system will automatically converts your stored currency to the local one, for instance from British Pounds to Indian Rupees. 4. Are there any fees to sign up? There are no annual or sign on fees for any ABA member banks. 5. How will our bank customers be able to purchase a Currency Card?
The card is available as an instant-issue card, so your bank customers can purchase a card at any participating ABA member bank. 6. What is Purchase Protection?
Cardholders can benefit from the security and safety offered through Purchase Protection. If something you bought with your Visa or MasterCard card is damaged or stolen within ninety (90) days of purchase, you may be eligible for benefits under this coverage. 7. Can our bank customers return a purchase?
Each merchant location has its own policy and will handle the return in the same manner as any other Visa or MasterCard transaction. You may receive a credit to the Currency Card, a cash refund or a store credit. A credit to your Currency Card may take up to 3 working days.
8. Would I be able to hold a hotel or car reservation with my Currency card?
We strongly ask that you use a valid credit card to hold any reservation and upon checkout, use your Currency Card as payment. 9. Does the Currency Card have an expiration date?
Yes. The expiration date will be up to 36 months, as indicated on the front emboss of the card. The new MasterCard® EUR/GBP cards have a card life of 24 months. 10. Can the Currency Card be reloaded?
Yes. The Visa TravelMoney®card now has unlimited reload capabilities and the MasterCard® Cash Passports are reloadable up to 24 times.
11. What happens if the Currency Card is lost or stolen?
If the Currency Card is lost or stolen, we will replace the outstanding funds in the card anywhere in the world. However, you can carry a second Currency Card and if one card is lost or stolen, your funds are protected and accessible.
12. Can our bank customers pay for gas with a Currency Card?
Yes, but they should always pay at the counter and tell the operator how much they want taken from the card. If payment is made at the pump, $51 is automatically deducted from the card until the actual transaction posts. If you have les than $51 on your card, your transaction will be declined at the pump.
